Disney vacation contest results!

11 10 2009

Thank you to everyone who’ve participated in my little contest. It was quite fun reading all of your guesses for my seven clues. Some of you were often right! The one who was the most often right with 4 rights out of seven, and that person is Annette of  Confessions of a Yarn Addict. Congratulations Annette!

Here are the exact answers to the 7 clues:

Clues #1-7

1. Tom Sawyer Island – Magic Kingdom (no one guessed this but 2 people guessed the closest with Disney)
2. Train that goes to Rafiki’s Planet Watch – Animal Kingdom (the closest guesses was for the African area of Animal Kingdom)
3. Toy Story Mania – Hollywood Studios
4. It’s a small world – Magic Kingdom
5. Wilderness Lodge
6. Norway pavilion – Epcot
7. Spaceship Earth pavilion – Epcot (for this I accepted Epcot Center Globe)

Here a few additional pictures that were taken around Disney that I thought were interesting, enjoy! Feel free to click on each picture for additional details.

Trip to Disney in 9 photos

Where in the world is? Clue #7

10 10 2009

I guess I don’t know how to count! Yesterday I said that there were 3 clues left. I have absolutely no idea where I pulled that number from. Clue #7 is actually the last clue, even this is quite fun and I could have a lot more pictures for  you. But I’m sure you’d like to see some knitting too again, so knitting content will resume on Monday.

So for the last clue I present something that should be very easy!

Clue #7

Contest winners, solutions to the clues and a few last photos of my trip will come on Sunday.

Where in the world is? Clue #6

9 10 2009

We’re nearing the end of my Where in the world is? contest. There are only 3 clues left!

Today’s clue is knitting-related. Yes, I somehow found something that had something to do with knitting at Disney. Where do you think I saw this?

Clue #6

I did not buy one of these kits, but I was tempted!

ETA: The kit is one of the Learn to Knit kit, like this one.

Where in the world is? Clue #5

8 10 2009

Boy, you guys are good! You’re guessing pretty accurately, it’s going to be tough figuring out who’s going to win!

After the egret and the platypus, today we have a pair of green bisons…

Clue #5

So let’s see if you can figure out where these are from!

Where in the world is? Clue #4

7 10 2009

So where did I find these little cuties?

Anybody knows?

Clue #4

If you know the answer, watch out! You just might be stuck with the song for the rest of the day! I know I did! ; )

Where in the world is? Clue #3

6 10 2009

Thank you to everyone who’s participated so far in my little contest, it’s really too bad someone guessed so quickly! : )

Would you rather I give  you where / what each previous clue the next day or would you rather I give you all the descriptions all at once at the end? I guess that if I wait until the end more of you will have the chance to participate!

Just an added detail to the kind of answer I’m looking for: Instead of just giving me the name of the park each photo is from, please tell me, if you can, which ride/area/resort, etc. the photo is from. The more precise it is, the better.  Does that make sense?

Today’s clue is:

Clue #3

Isn’t he cute?!!

Where in the world is? Clue #2

5 10 2009

Contest update: someone’s already guessed correctly where I was on vacation… I guess it was too easy! The answer was Walt Disney World and the first person who got it right was Greeley! Congratulations Greeley!

Now that you all know that I went to Disney, the second part of the contest should be a bit easier. I still need you to guess what exactly I’m taking a picture of for your chance at an extra prize. If you’ve already commented on the first picture, please feel free to comment again with your guess as per the location.

Here is today’s clue. Can anyone guess where it’s from?

Clue #2

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego Clue #1

4 10 2009

Here’s my first clue. I know it’s hard, but it will get easier!

Remember, one guess per person per day in the comments. The first person to figure where I was on vacation will win 1 prize. But you can still win another prize by figuring it out where or what each photo is.

Clue #1

Good luck!

Great swap and contest results!

27 07 2008

A couple of months ago, Keri from Knitty Gritty Thoughts and I decided to have our own little swap. I had been admiring her battlets in her etsy shop and I offered to make her one of my box bag for some of her spinning battlets.

We both send each other’s package last Monday and both received ours on Friday. I think I got the best end of the deal… Look at all the goodies she sent me!

Package full of goodies from Keri

There’s some fiber there, a cute notebook with and Eiffel tower key chain, the cutest fabric fat quarter and some of her awesome Spinning Project Cards.

Here’s a close up on the fiber she sent me:

Battlets
4.3 oz of A Little Dotty on the left and 3.6 oz of Woodins on the right

The fabric has cute sheep, ducks and hedgehogs on it… I’ll have to find a pattern worthy of this fabric!

Cute sheep, ducks and hedgehogs fabric

Make sure to check out her etsy shop, she dyes great roving and makes beautiful spinning battlets. She also sells cute little project bags although she has none in stock now. Thank you Keri, what an awesome swap!

And now for the contest!

It’s taken me the longest time to finally pick a winner. I had 45 entries with a choice of over 100 possible names, you guys have an awesome imagination! I quickly narrowed my choices to my 5 favorites, but then it got really hard and it’s the reason why it took me so long. Last night I finally narrowed it down to 3 names that I really liked and I got rid of one only because it’s already an online store’s name.

Here were the final 3 contenders:

Atelier Champignon by Greely

Pink Mushroom suggested in some form by Maryse, Heidi and Miss T

Stitching Mushroom suggested by Sidney

At that point I decided to let the random generator make the choice for me… And the winner is Sidney with “Stitching Mushroom”! Sidney, I will be sending you an email shortly so make sure to check your spam mail if you don’t see anything from me!

Thank you very much to everyone who participated and for all your wonderful suggestions!

Quilt blocks, quilt top!

20 07 2008

Last weekend I finally started working on the 1930′s quilt I mentioned a while back. First I made a sample out of cardboard just so I would have an idea of how the blocks would look like.

10" cardboard sample block

After cutting out all my pieces I made a sample block out of spare fabric.

Test Quilt Block

The quilt blocks for the actual quilt weren’t going to be mismatched fabrics but I still got a good idea of the size and the final look.

After chain-piecing all my blocks I ended up with 25 blocks. Each block is 10″x10″ so just the blocks along make a nice 50″x50 quilt top. I tried a few different layouts and these were the main contenders.

Random:

Gradient:

I like this layout the best I think

The general consensus is that the gradient layout is the most interesting. It’s also my favorite, so I’m quite happy with it. Next up I have to decide on sashing and borders and buy fabric accordingly. I hope to have a finished quilt top next weekend!
